I recently read a huge colloaborative article in Commentary magazine about the future of America. They gathered up 41 writers to write about whether they were optomistic or pessemistic about America's future. great reading. though deppressing at times. but I didn't write to review the article. I write to refute all of those writers.
Firstly, about half the optimistic writers wrote that they were guardedly optimistic. thats really code for you're pessemistic and you don't want to admit it. closet pessimists. secondly, when you're writing about America, there is really no option other than optimism. That's what founded America and what got us through every single conflict up until now. We've faced greater obstacles than the multitude of appalling statistics that these pessimists bring out. Which is the only arguement they have. Numbers and percentages. We've faced greater foes than that my friends. So to the people at Commentary I say, you guys aren't very American for even suggesting that America is declining. I know you want to present both sides of an issue, but now is not the time.
Thats about all I have to say for now.
