First: My new job. and hopefully that is the last time I will say that in a long long long long but not one more long, time.
I am a Dishwasher/kitchen assistant at the reception manor where I had my prom! I feel that I am in the exposition part of an indie film. Any day now, Zoey Deschannel or Aubrey Plaza will enter stage left and start up with the narrative hook that will grab the audience's attention.
But until then, I will continue to wash, wash, run errand, wash, wash, dry, wash, dry, booze run to Sam's Club, unload van, eat food, wash, wash, have food throw into my hands by the head chef, wash, wash, sweep, then mop, and I go home to start over the next day!!!!!
If my tone comes across as sarcastic or depressed, dispell that thought!! I seriously love this job and its the fun things in between the wash wash wash that make this job great.
One example: tonight I had to walk to the other kitchen to wash different dishes and in order to do that I had to walk through the wedding reception going on. In order to do that, I had to look presentable, and since I normally come to work in a t-shirt and jeans (one BIG plus for this job), I was given a chef's jacket so that I didn't look like a homeless bozo walking through a wedding reception. You should have seen the respect in everyone's eye's as I walked through the reception. I am guessing at this point. I think I saw respect and people thinking: "wow there goes a chef, even though dinner is over and no chefs are needed any longer!" One thing I did see is white people doing what they do best, having a complete lack of dancing competence. Man it was like watching the part of a sitcom where someone is making fun of their friend's bad dance moves. I laughed, then sighed, because I am not much better. Then I turned my disappointment into anger and used that anger to furiously wash the plates. Did them in record time, didn't break a single one.
Another thing I like about this job that I briefly mentioned but now will expand: The head chef is a super awesome guy that is always handing me food. And said food is soggy-ed up a bit because my hands are almost always wet, due to being the dishwasher dude.
AND another thing: I work in a kitchen. never have to bring my lunch to work. ever. I just turn to one of the chefs and say "make me some food, please." and they do. They're awesome like that.
love this job
and if ever I think otherwise in the future, slap me in the face.
and one more last final thing. I tried broccolini for for the first time ever the other day. loved it. way better than normal boring broccoli. never going back to you, broccoli.
Broccolini for life.
